This Olney, Maryland native is realizing that graduating with a mass comm degree has
absolutely nothing to do with anything massively comedic. Despite the alarming news,
Laura currently resides in New York City with five years of stand-up and improv
experience. She believes yearns for the day when having a bachelor’s degree in
comedy will be considered legitimate.
While in high school, Laura began taking short-form and long-form improvisation classes at The Washington, D.C. Improv under Shawn Westfall. Somehow, she loved “yes, anding” so much, she gave stand-up a go.
As a Hokie at Virginia Tech, she became a regular at Attitudes Comedy Club. This lead to her participation in campus events such as the American Eagle's Campus Comedy Challenge, The Laughter for Love Benefit Show, Relay for Life, D.C.’s Funniest College Comedian, and opening at Virginia Tech Union's comedy events. She also was the founder and teacher of the improv troupe at Virginia Tech called, “You Know What I Mean”. During summers in college, she would come to New York City to train with the Upright Citizens Brigade.
Since making the move to the city, she has set foot on a number of stages including: Comix, Stand-Up NY, Caroline’s on Broadway, Laugh Lounge, Comedy Cellar, Comic Strip, Gotham Time Square Arts Center, Ochi’s Lounge, and Karma Lounge. She produces and hosts a new monthly show in the lower east side called, “Too Soon?” at The Delancey Lounge.
