Let's Get TrivialHappy Hour Trivia (on 5/21): Here's something a little different -- on Wednesday, May 21, the DC Improv hosts Happy Hour Trivia. It's a comedy-themed bar trivia night preceding the 8:30 show (with headliner Bob Marley), and the competition is open to the first 55 ticketholders who show up. Hosted by Dcstandup's own Chris White. Details are at the DC Improv site. Venues Update (4/28): Some happy news to start the week: The Laughing Lizard is back, sort of. The old Old Town haunt is under new management and with a new name, but the organizaers at TDC Presents have negotiated the return of Saturday night comedy showcases. Things kick off again on May 10; you can read about it on their site. We'll also add it to the venues and calendar pages.
Venues Update (4/22): More venues changes? You bet. All Stars Comedy is no longer operating at Mr. Smiths. The NoVa Comedy Zone is down to one show per week, on Saturday nights. And we think (but we're not sure) that the Cardinal's Nest open mic in Brookland isn't happening -- instead it looks like the Library will be every week instead. You can get all the details at the venues listings. Artomatic (4/16): Artomatic, the DC area's annual festival showcasing visual and performance art (May 9 - June 15), is interested in adding stand-up comedy. We're spreading the word: "If you are interested in performing, please register for performance on the Artomatic Web site and get in touch with the Cabaret Stage (cabaret at artomatic.org) for booking." Open Mics (4/15): A couple of notices on Maryland open mics -- first off, the show at Dave's American Bistro returns with warm weather, hopefully on May 1. Also, new open mics to report at Pelican Pete's in Germantown and the Irish Channel Pub in Gambrills. That's a few new options for anyone in the DC/Baltimore limbo area. Check out the Open Mics page for the details. Contests Update (4/11): A new listing for the Drafthouse Comedy Challenge (May and June 2008) has been added to the contests/festivals page. 24 comics competing for $1,500 ... when we have more info on competitors we'll let you know. Venues Update (4/10): We've added a listing for Laugh Out Loud to the site; it's an urban club operating out of Club Elite in Temple Hills, Md. They have an open mic on Thursdays and pro shows Friday and Saturday. Maryland venues
Improv Lounge (4/7): The DC Improv Lounge continues to be a popular rental space for local comics -- the Improv has updated the rental policy to answer a few more questions that potential renters might have. You can see the updated terms on the Lounge rental page. Dates are filling up so plan ahead, yo. |
